CLOSED - Scott Hall Mills Residencies

THIS OPPORTUNITY IS NOW CLOSED

Scott Hall Mills is opening its doors to artists, creatives and makers to undertake a residency in the building.

With residencies available across two of our spaces – our studio and workshop – we are looking to provide local creatives with space to develop and realise creative projects. Perhaps you want to make a music video? Or to build a new prototype? Or just want a space to develop a new idea? We want to facilitate space for people to explore, play, make and develop, in a vibrant creative setting. No outcomes needed.

We are offering eight x 5 day residencies in either our studio or workshop, with a £100 subsidy per residency as a contribution towards food and travel costs. Funded by Leeds Inspired and Arts Council England.

Studio Residency

The Studio has been used as a location for filming and photography, music promo and live sessions, workshops, film screenings, live performance, dining events, launches, exhibitions and much more. Have a little nosey at the space here.

Featuring a photography cove, glasshaus, treehouse, and lounge set-up, it’s a perfect space for a range of R&D and production activities. Perhaps you’re looking for a space to shoot a video? Maybe you have a photography project you’ve been itching to do? Or want to R&D a theatre project? We’re open to suggestions…!

We’re providing a weeks space (5 days), that can be flexible to suit your needs within the allotted week. We’re also happy to arrange use of our prop store and coloramas on request. The 1,100 sq/ft mill studio is best suited to projects that require a lot of space to realise, and we are particularly keen to support dynamic projects that can't be achieved just by sitting at a laptop.

We accept applications from individuals, or groups, providing that groups are no larger than six, and are able to abide to social distancing rules in place over the period. We cannot (for obvious reasons!) host public events of any form. Please be aware that the studio space is located on the 2nd floor and we do not have a lift, which unfortunately may not be accessible to everyone.

In the event that further COVID-19 restrictions come into place, we will do our best to rearrange residencies to a later date.

Dates Available:

  • w/c 9th Nov

  • w/c 16th Nov

  • w/c 23rd Nov

  • w/c 30th NoV

Subsidy: £100 per residency

Workshop Residency

The Scott Hall Mills Workshop is used by founders Lord Whitney, along with a number of freelance makers. A shared space, we are able to provide half of the workshop – including a 4ft x 8ft bench, to makers, artists and carpenters.

Perhaps you’re wanting to create a new prototype of an existing idea? Are looking to play with new materials? Or want to create an artwork in the space? The workshop is a relaxed and flexible setting, that can be used for a range of activities.

Although we expect makers to bring their own equipment and materials, we may be able to support in the loan on provision of some equipment, following induction - just let us know at the application stage.

We accept applications from individuals, to maximum two people per residency, providing that you are able to abide to social distancing rules in place over the period.

In the event that further COVID-19 restrictions come into place, we will do our best to rearrange residencies to a later date.

Dates Available:

  • w/c 23rd Nov

  • w/c 14th Dec

Subsidy: £100 per residency
